THE USE OF MOBILE TECHNOLOGY TO BUILD CHARACTER IN ENGLISH TEACHING AND LEARNING

Abstract


This study is to analyze the possibility of integrating mobile technology used in English teaching and learning for building students‘ character. The methodology used was qualitative research. In collecting the data, the analysis of some mobile contents in mobile application conducted. In this case, the analysis was limited on the contents of mobile E-Budaya application. In gaining the data, checklist was used as the research instrument. The results, then, was inputted in the matrix available and analyzed based on the points of research needed. The points of analysis were about the kinds of the traditional values, the moral values in mobile E-Budaya apps, and the possibilities used in English teaching and learning. From the analysis, it was found that 100 material contents of traditional values. Among the contents, more than 60 contents can be used as the reference contents in teaching and learning of English. Those contents mostly belonged to traditional ceremony, folklore, and game. Those contents covered the moral values. In case of the use of mobile apps in English teaching and learning, the contents in the mobile apps can be functioned as the main and the enrichment media. By using the mobile apps, the teacher, in addition, can optimize the students‘ thinking order. The teacher can raise them into the highest level- creating.
