Abstract

The most recent curriculum in Indonesia is 2013 Curriculum. According to this curriculum, the status of English in the primary school is not a required subject but a local content or specific subject to a particular region. It may only be taught if the local community of primary school thinks that the students need the English proficiency. Since teaching English to young learners is different from teaching English to adult learners, the teachers should choose suitable materials. One of the materials that can be used to teach English to young learners is fiction. Fiction is a written material created from authors‘ imagination for giving enjoyment and information to children or young adults. It can not only be useful for teaching English in an interesting and effective way but also build the students‘ character value through indirect teaching. It also can be applied in four language skills, that is, listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
